“Reduplication” is considered as one of the generative ways of word formation in most languages of the world. While being generative, it can be done totally and partially in Persian. The present study aims to investigate this phenomenon in Persian based on the two extant approaches in distributed morphology known as the “adjustment approach” and “affixation approach” to capture the best one through which reduplication in the Persian language can be expressed by imposing the least computational efforts to the language system. In the process of affixation, a certain vocabulary item is added to the syntactic structure to discharge certain morphosyntactic features that the stem presents to the phonology; however, according to the adjustment approach reduplication is the result of adjustment phonological operations through a syntactic affix (usually null) on the root. Based on the Persian spoken corpus, this research analyzes reduplication in Persian according to distributed morphology. The findings demonstrate that out of the two mentioned approaches in distributed morphology, the affixation approach can capture reduplication in Persian more optimally and impose less computational effort to language system.
