Abstract
Eloquent silence of Ephratt is an active tool in message transmission and encompasses referential, emotional, poetic, persuasive, empathetic, and meta-linguistic roles. The valuable work, Nahj al-Balaghe, has encountered manifestations of eloquent silence appropriate to the state of its audiences. This research, conducted using an analytical-inferential method, points to the exploration of eloquent emotional silence in various fields of Imam's oratory and examines its active, influential, and meaningful role in conveying message, feeling, and thought through the unsaid aspects of speech. The outcome of the present research indicates that sometimes we encounter words or phrases that have often been used to fill space. Examination of these phrases reveals that some of them have an active function, for instance, indicating the submission of the speaker or listener; some have been used to persuade, threaten, or humiliate audiences; some convey an emotion within Imam, such as regret for remaining unknown among the people of his time, a sense of sorrow and suffering from the usurpation of the caliphate, and a comparison of his personality with the companions of Saqifah.
