Abstract
The article presents the results of an experimental study on the influence of lexicographic emphasis devices (non-verbal means of highlighting information) on search efficiency within a dictionary entry. Using eye-tracking and questionnaires, three types of emphasis were evaluated: 1) formatting of text illustrations (italics, color, roman type), 2) presentation of polysemy (bold numeral, regular numeral, paragraph indentation), and 3) the presence of special markers (★ Син. (synonyms), ◊ (phraseological units) and Этим. (word etymology)). Forty-five philology students participated in the experiment.

It was found that highlighting text illustrations does not affect search speed or accuracy, although respondents subjectively prefer italics and color. In the presentation of polysemy, paragraph indentation provides an optimal balance of speed and accuracy (94% correct answers), whereas bold numerals accelerate search but reduce accuracy (67% correct answers). Among the markers, ★ Syn. has the greatest objective effect (increasing both speed and accuracy); the subjectively most useful marker, Etym., shows only a tendency toward faster search; the ◊ marker has no effect on search. A partial mismatch between subjective preferences and objective performance indicators was revealed. The results point to the need for empirical justification in the choice of lexicographic emphasis devices.
